Topic Dog Boards / Health / Is my puppy be throwing up from Stress?

For thanksgiving, my two puppies and I went on a 10 hour road trip. My male lab Desi (4 months old) seem to be stressed out for most of the way on the trip. Once we got to our destination, he seemed fine. The following day, every time he would eat within a half an hour he would throw up his food. I didn't see anything unusual in what he threw up other than all the dry food he ate was not digested yet. He continued that throughout the day. We finally thought this wasn't normal so we took him to the vet. They gave him an antibiotic shot and another shot for him to stop throwing up. He was tested for worms and nothing was found. He was fine for the next day and then it was time to return home. The drive home seem normal, he didn't seem stressed. When we arrived he was fine we went to bed then the the following day he was back as new. Then just today he ate again and within the half hour he threw up again? Its all so puzzling for me. The only thing that I can think of is that my husband and I decided last night that they would now sleep on the floor next to our bed instead of sleeping with us. My other puppy took it great, but not Desi, he seem stressed about the whole situation. Could that be it or is there something else I should know or ask the Vet? Please advise? I could use all the help.

Hi, well I'm stumped but thought I'd reply as no-one else did. :-) Not a good idea to take such a young pup on such a long journey - it could well be stress. Unless you really have no choice I wouldn't repeat a journey like that too often.Hopefully he will settle down soon. Try and keep to a regular routine, especially of where he sleeps.

Perhaps he was eating too fast and not chewing his food enough to stay down. Samma would gulp her food down and usually within the hour, she'd start heaving it back up :( She'd do this if she drank her water too fast after coming back from somewhere.

I just would stand over her and at first pull her away from her bowls to give her a moment of calm..then eventually, she'd actually respond to "slower" Yeah, I know, very strange :) She doesn't do it anymore to food -- occasionally to water when she's excited. I think she grew out of it.
Anyway, just a guess. I hope he settles out of it :)
good luck,
toodles
