Topic Dog Boards / General / He's eating the car !!!!!

Hi all
I've just come back from a short trip into town ,took IT with me in the back of estate car .
I left him for 30 minutes and came back to no back seat
He has ripped all the covering off the back seat at one side and chewed out all the foam ( and spat it out )

He has made a little hole further along which I have tried to fix in various ways with no success
Have you any ideas how I can repair this ?
I've tried duck tape but that lasts about 20 seconds :(
I leave him in the car with stuff to chew and I don't think 30 minutes is exessive
It wouldn't seem as bad but where was I ??? In the butchers getting him a lovely bone !!!!!( think I'll shove that were the sun don't shine !!)

Apart from the fact that hubby is gonna string me up by the t*ts , he's wrecking the car ,it's not a newey ,we only got it to transport the beast about but enough is enough
any ideas !!!!!!

How about a big piece of fabric as a patch?
And those plastic seat covers for the future?

I had this problem with Jake as a puppy, he ate two sets of car seatbelts

Get a crate. If your dog has free reign and is chewing the car he could cause some serious damage. Seats can always be replaced - but should he decide to chew through the handbrake or the steering wheel etc that could be dangerous. Ccrating him will prevent all that.

What car is it, how old etc? If not a brand new one - you may be able to pick a seat up from a scrap dealer. There's quite few online now that deliver. You can do online searches for exaclty what you want. Even i f it is failry new - you may be lucky from a crash vehicle. Try searching through Google or Jeeves.

Hi Pam
he is confined behind bars,he's not actually coming through to the inside of the car just ripping the covers
a crate would be a good idea though
thanks
liz
sorry I didn't make it clear -he is in the back bit of an estate car behind bars ....it's the top and back of the seats he's devouring not the bit you sit on .

no consolation I know...but you really do know when your car is being destroyed when your hound (one of mine)!!! consumes the whole roof liner, & the rear door interior panels both sides including window winders!!!! That was just in the 1st hour! Hence I have had landrovers ever since!

Hi, how about a muzzle until you can get a crate? I know its not ideal but would stop him eating the car in the short term. A friend had a Weim, who completely demolished the interior of their car one day, all seats , roof liner, seat belts, took all the knobs/buttons off the dash. Not only did they have a ruined car, they also took him for a £60 x ray to check he hadn't got a belly full of foam/sharp bits - He was fine of course!!

He won't look !!!
It's dark when he goes out and dark when he comes in !
It is repairable so I'll have to set to !
It's only a banger because we knew the dog would mess it up but he is usually very good in the car ,it is one of his saving graces ( and he doesn't have many :D )
He's not destructive in the house .....he throws things around and messes them up but doesn't actually damage them ( much ! )
oh well the joys of dogs :)

I think a muzzle would distress him too much
he is usually good in the car ( one of his good points ) He is behind bars so he can't get at the dash board and the roof and the sides are hard so I'll see how he goes ;)

its not just you - our last dobe ate all the knobs in the car on the dashboard - we had no choice but to replace them - that was last time left in car !
The pup is not going anywhere near this car alone!
