Topic Dog Boards / General / Pharoh Hounds and other breeds?

Hello everyone, after loosing Storm so horribly last week I am now left wondering what to do next. I've thought about getting another Dobe but I'm not too sure whether I would be comparing the poor pup with Storm. I have always thought Pharoh Hounds were beautiful but have had absolutely no experience with them. I am going to see some adult Pharohs tomorrow but wanted to know if anyone had any experience with them. I'm not in a hurry to get a new puppy (whatever breed) so I'm not going to rush into anything, i'm still very very upset about loosing Storm, but I know it can take months to find the right dog and plus it helps me think about something else.

Any info about Pharoh Hounds would be much appreciated or any other breeds that fit the short haired, elegant looking, loving nature medium sized, up for anything dog criteria.

Thanks

Clair

PS Thanks to all of you for your words of kindness last weekend, sometimes only doggie people understand what it's like when they go.

I think one of the hardest things after losing a beloved frined can be deciding what to do next. In my mind - decding to get another dog so quickly clear recognition of what Storm brought to you in that short life. I hope you find the breed that's right for you soon.

Good luck - you know we'll be with you all the way:-)

I know a lady who owned a Pharoah hound with a gaggle of Maltese, and now has a Cirneco Del Etna (a newly imported breed about size of a whippet, but looks like a mini Pharoah). This bitch was lovely and gentle. I have met a young male who was a bit scatty, but he was a pronking pup, but again fine with other dogs.

I am sure some of the sight hound experts may tell you more.

Have a word with Pam Ayling.
She has and breeds Pharoahs and writes the breed notes in DogWorld :-)

just to say good luck with whatever you decide ,I hope your feeling a teeny bit better :)
( there is a lady a couple of miles from us and she has a Dobe called Storm ,it's funny how you know where all the dogs live and their names )
best wishes

Liz :)

Thanks everyone, I'm going to see some adult Pharoh Hounds today. I'm quite excited about it but I am going with an open mind. I remember dogs' names far easier than I remember peoples names. Sometimes you meet the same people out walking every day for months and still not know what their name I just refer to them as Spots Owner or the Collie Man - not to their face of course :-)

Hi Clair, How about a Hamiltonstovare, they are thicker set than Pharohs but still the hound nature, smooth coated etc.?
