A friend of mine has bought a really nice puppy from a breeder who was recommended to her for showing.
Everything was fine the breeder is very knowlegdable about the breed and the pup came with all correct papers and puppy pack etc.
The thing is the pup also had rear due claws which are not a good thing and so had to be removed ( by a vet ) which my friend had done.
All this time the breeder was keeping in contact by email and everything was fine , when my friend mentioned the the pup had rear due claws and had them removed the breeder was very appologetic that she had missed them and offered to pay the bill.
My friend sent the bill off with a note to say thankyou and that was that.
Two weeks later she had heard nothing and emailed the breeder to see that everything was ok , no reply and to this day ( over a period of 4 months ) the breeder has never contacted my friend again.
What should she do, you see there are endorsements on the pup ( which are a good thing ) that the puppy will only be bred from 1 when she is the correct age and 2 she has had all the proper medical tests done.
So does she confront the breeder as she does have it in writing on email that the breeder will pay the bill and risk the endorsements never being lifted or does she keep quiet and hope for the best?
She is not fussed about the money for the dew claws but she does not want to fall out with the breeder.

Please help.

Perhaps a letter saying that as she had not heard from them (the breeders) perhaps she misunderstood that they wished to pay for the dew claws to be removed and she would be pleased that if she did make a mistake, would they let her know. Jackie

The thing is the email was so clear
" Please send me the bill for the dew claws "
That pretty much explains itself.:(

Then perhaps a straight forward letter saying 'I value your advice and help, you have not replied to my letters etc., if I have caused some sort of displeasure would you please let me know as when I start to show your beautiful puppy I will need a lot of help and I would rather that help came from you'. It is possible that the breeder may have had a calamity in their lives and your friend is the least of their worries. Jackie

If all this correspondance is being done via email its possible something has gone amiss & the address is no longer valid etc etc. Far better to give the breeder a ring or drop a line in the post & see what happens.

Perhaps the bill came to more than she realized it would or her household finances could have taken an unexpected dive...either way, she might be too embarrassed to say anything about it. :( Good intentions sometimes cannot hold up to reality.

Once I have a puppy in my possesion I feel all bills for that puppy are down to me.
I am the owner now warts and all and if I did not see the dew claws were still there I would be inclined to say to my self I should have checked.
If I were the person I would write again and say.
As I did not hear from you im worried you may be ill .
I would not mention the bill at all and ask the breeder if she /he would let her know if all is well .
Tell her she was lookinhg forward to back up in the puppys show careeer and chose her puppy as she had been told there was backup on offer .
I reckon if she is a decent person .she will reply

Deary,

Sometimes you find in life when people say.. " Oh I will pay the bill" they don't mean it..

Have you ever been in a situation when you say to some in a pub or after a meal and they offer to pay , then you say I will...and they let you..LOL

I think this may be what it is..

Good luck

Pam
