TH is currently at the vets. They are sedating her and looking for bite marks/puncture wounds etc. Then they are going to x-ray as they suspect she may have a broken bone in her toe.

Of course, she was as perky as Larry at the vets, running around on all 4 legs and woo-ing for attention.

Hope she is ok Kate ... excellent timing as usual

It's just a cunning ploy to get out of beating tomorrow.

Shes just trying to tell you she doesn't want to work for her dinner :D

Tracy :)

PS Hows Wilby coming along? Any new tricks?

The workshy welsh layabout is doing just fine at the moment. He's becoming better every day, although he still looks for opportunities for a moment's devilment :D

The indoor school gets finished today, so I'm sure tomorrow will be a bucking bronco day, as he spooks at everything.

Did I tell you about his only walking backwards phase? That was followed by a week of random catleaping.
- By TJD [gb] Date 29.11.02 14:53 UTC
I wondered when he would get to the leaping stage! :p :D I hate to tell you but that one might not go away - Blue still does that as he finds a very good way to get the reins from me as he leaps and puts his head down then leaps again

Oh well sounds as if you are having fun :) Have you jumped him yet? Does he behave if you do as that is normally the a very good excuse to muck about

And I am very jealous of your indoor school - I really miss not having one and now I haven't even got a school so I have had to turn Blue away for the winter :(

Glad to hear TH has no broken bones. Give her a cuddle from me.

Will only does one leap and if that doesn't work, he turns his head to look at you as if to say "still there?".

He loves jumping. We've been over the hunt jumps and he was brilliant. Very easy to control and no mucking about. There's a jumping specialist coming to the yard to give us a jumping lesson soon, so we'll see how he reacts to that.

The indoor school is the one thing that makes up for the livery yard being so far from my house. But if it wasn't for that, I wouldn't be able to ride him in the winter mornings. :(

The TH has no visible bites/punctures/breaks/injuries. Nothing showing up in the x-rays. But it's so swollen that they want her to go back in a few days to have another look.

Hi 9thM , my springer (Decoy) has had paw troubles for a while now - on and off - it started in the summer, when, as we walked into the park he suddenly shrieked in pain , and was yelping, holding his paw up, he carried on screaming as loud as he could whilst I checked it out - I first thought maybe I had stepped on his paw by accident, but didn't feel anything and he wasn't really that close, then I wondered if he had stepped on anything, glass maybe? we went off to the vet, he had stopped yelping and would let me look properly but neither the vet or myself could find any entry wound or any thing that specifically caused him pain when it was manipulated. So he gave me anti inflammatories and antibiotics and sent me on my way, the paw which was a bit swollen was poked and prodded but nothing could be found, and the vet said that if there was any sign of infection suddenly occuring to bring him back. It went down quickly and didn't give anymore cause for concern until a couple of weeks ago, I though he had hurt it because of his naughty antics pulling on the lead, and he had suddenly yelped again and was limping, so we went back to the vets who did find a small sore bit, he had been licking the previous evening but that's all , and said unless they open it up and poke around, bearing in mind there is no particular indication of where to open it up, then there is nothing they can do other than keep giving him anti inflammatories etc and just treating the symptoms cos they don't know the cause!!! I asked if it could be a dreaded grass seed, and they think maybe but with these pesky things unless they are hanging out or there is a significant infection site, they just cant find them! I still don't know what caused it, and no doubt it will rear up again at some point, I haven't had x-rays done as the vet didn't think it would do anything as you could move the paw around without any yelping? With your dog maybe it was a sting? There are still bees around, I got buzzed yesterday by a winter crazed bumble bee! Hope you resolve it, Its bloomin annoying when you just don't know what it is though!! Julie:)

Our old lab Purdey, when she was a pup, just coming into her first season, came skidding into the kitchen on two wheels (legs, I mean) and banged into the fridge, hurting her shoulder. We took her to the vets', she was xrayed- no skeletal damage, just bruising, and she had anti-inflammatories, and got better. The second time she was in season - she started limping on the same foreleg - and the third - and the fourth !!!!After she had her pups, she was spayed and guess what - she has never limped on that front foreleg again!

And *Delores* has decided that she would share her mange with Bear, so that's him out of action until it is cleared
- By John [gb] Date 30.11.02 10:51 UTC
Oh dear! With Bear, TH and The Flower out of action the Pheasies are having an easy time of it this season! I shall be going over and shaking a few trees next Saturday but it's not the same without Anna beside me :(
