I have a litter ready to go today but one of the buyers has pulled out due to a death in the family.
I will wait for the right family but think he will probably stay until after christmas and new year now. Should I give him a name or just call him puppy. I am keeping a puppy from the litter myself, River and it will feel strange the other pup not having a name.

Our lad was 12 weeks when we got him the breeder had 4 pups ( she was keeping two ) and she had named them all but she only used the names 'loosely' more for her own benefit than the dog anyway the point I will get to is --we changed his name and it wasn't a problem ......I wouldn't worry too much :)

Hi Nicolla - the breeder we got our puppy from had intended to keep him to show but his bite turned out wrong. So we had him from 6 months of age. Up til then she had called him Jet but we decided to change it to Buddy. Incredibily, before we put him to bed the first night he was responding to his new name.

So I don't think it will cause any problems if you give him a name now even if it's changed by his new owners later. And you never know, you might get so attached you won't want to part with him !! :)

yeh dogs can have the names changed upto about a year old and cope with their new name quick enuf!! we changed our dogs name at 18 months and there were no problems at all...i find that dogs respond betta to whistles ne way.

sounds strangely like my husband ! .. he'll respond to any name when in front of tv..........................................................
