Topic Dog Boards / Health / Jeeze, 2 more weeks!!! Puppy Vacination?
- By Tmouse [gb] Date 27.11.02 19:51 UTC
Hi

I recently took our new puppy to the vet to have his first vaccination, and he said that when he comes back at 12 weeks for his second vaccination, I'll have to wait a further 2 weeks before I can take him out, so that the vaccination can build up his immune system! My pup is desperate to explore the outside world on his own feet instead of my arms and to be honest he's getting bloody heavy!!! Are my vets instructions normal or is he just a bit overprotective, I mean I can understand a few days but 2 weeks!!?

I was told the same with my pup :) Some vets seem to say a further week and some 2 weeks :)

What your vet has said is the norm. It's up to you whether you want to take the risk and put your pup down before the full two weeks is up. I let mine down after a week each with no problems.

I've just made an appointment for our pup and was told the same-two weeks after the second vac.
I think it's okay for them to go out in your own garden though, provided it's secure, and no other dogs have had or can have access to it. I'm sure someone will put me right on that if it's not the case;)

I believe they should be okay after the first vaccination, to meet other fully vaccinated dogs, on safe ground such as your garden. Again, opinions may differ.
