Hi everyone! Love this site and hope you don't mind me asking a question. We have a 16 week old king charles cavalier spaniel, who is a little darling. He is very well behaved and only very occasionally wees in the house, when you don't watch him carefully and has never pooed inside the house. The problem however is that he dosent wee or poo when out for a walk! He sniffs every lamp post and we take him to a field where other dogs are but he dosent do anything. As soon as we come home he goes straight out to the back garden and does it there. Also maybe a very naive question but when do they start cocking their legs instead of squatting? He is no problem at all but I am puzzled. My Email address is :Cozyrebel@aol.com if you have any suggestions. Thanks, Wendy

Not sure if it depends on breed but I would think leg cocking starts between 4 & 7 months, seems important at the time but I can't remember now and I've reared a good few males. It will be a good thing for you if your dog continues to only poo at home, saves the picking up problem you can do it at home where you know where the bin is. He will start to pee up everything when he can, unless he is a very retiring type, who may not wish the world to know he's there.

My Beardie is 19 months and has only just started cocking his leg regularly, as to going out on walks I think it may vary between dogs. My last two didn't do it regularly until they were older than yours and peed sooner than poohed. Just make a fuss when they do as it can be a nuisance if you want to go on holiday say and they are not keen to go. Don't worry tho' as time will sort it out

Hiya
My boy started cocking his leg at about six months ( he's 14 mths now ) and sometimes he still squats ,
If he's keen only to go at home I would encourage it and try and get him in the same place ,it will save on burnt patches on the lawn and burnt shrubs :(

My two started cocking legs at about four months and haven't stopped since! They pee on everything including other people's bins, bikes, shopping bags - you name it! They'll stop on the pavement and poo which is highly embarrassing when you have to stand there looking nonchalant then scrape up the 'do' whilst other poeple cross the road to avoid you! I'd love to have your problem - can we swap?!
