Our flatcoated retriever is nearly 2 years and still hasn't settled in the car. Every morning and evening we have a 10 minute drive to take her into the country for a walk, and she howls all the way there and all the way back. She doesn't seem distressed, and we thought it was just because she was excited, but we don't understand why she does it on the way back home. Occasionally we have a 2 hour drive into Wales for the day or weekend, and she howls for most of the journey. She loves the walks when we get there, and is really tired out afterwards, but still howls on the way home. We have a large car with a big boot(bought especially for the dog!) where she sits, there is plenty of space. We have tried putting toys, chewy bones etc....in the car with her. Our last two dogs used to sit in the well of the passenger seat, and loved being in the car. We are thinking of trying this now, but there is more room in the boot, Any help/ideas please!! Thanks.

Don't really know if this is 100% true, but someone told me that some cars make a high pitched noise that humans can't detect but dogs can. Apparently it's the "turbo"(???sorry, I'm female and have no idea what this is. I just know my car has it!):D
Hopefully some of the more technical folk can clear this up. :)

My in-laws dog does this, makes the most horrendous yowling noise, but only if my mum-in-law is there. Without her in the car he is as quiet as a mouse. He is very clingy to her and follows her around everywhere, we just thought he was upset because he could see her sitting there but couldn't get to her.
