my little yorkie has hurt one of her paws nothing serious maybe a broken toenail ,and will need anasectic on monday for the vet to see it properly or it could be a grass seed.at the same time the vet said he would clean her teeth.i was quite suprised when the receptionist told me i would have to pay in advance e even though i have all my 4 yorkies insured with rspca pet insurance.although the bill we not be that much maybe at a guess £150 -200 i am not a milionare.a morgage to pay ect .i do feel a bit upset about this i thought the insurance would take the worry out of these emergecys.is this the normal procedure

i have just shell out over £1000,00 on my dogs over the last 6 weeks,i use my cerit card,i have not send off the claim as some of the dogs still need treatment.i have to work hard to keep paying,

for something like the treatment you say UKyorkies my vet would not ask for payment upfront and it would be sorted by the insurance company (direct with the vet with me just paying the excess)
In a case like Briedogs then I would probably pay part of the bill as Terri has and claim afterwards when all was done but even in this type of case I believe that you can get an interim payment from the insurers if you need to. Hope things are improving with all yours Terri :)

Same here, when I made my first claim I gave the form to the vets and asked them to fill in the relevant bits & it was handed back to me to sign the bottom passing the claim over to them, all I have to pay is the excess, they sort the rest out direct with the insurance company.

It is at the discretion of the particular vet as to whether they ask you to pay. i am insured with kennel club, but still have been expected to pay up front. I have phoned a few local vets and they like payment up front too, so it is not unusual in other words.
