Hi,
I have a two year old cairn terrier that we adore. She is devoted to us but to no one else. She is extremely agressive to anyone who comes to our home. She also cannot handle it when the children are arguing. We assure her that everything is ok but she sometimes does not back down. she has also nipped a few fingers if a new person coming to our house puts their hand down. Last week something really scary happened for the first time. She was guarding a piece of left over pizza and growled and went after anyone who came close to her.
Any suggestions.
Betty

Welcome to the forum Betty :-)

Can I just clarify on something you said:

"We assure her that everything is ok but she sometimes does not back down"

Did you mean that you make comforting noises/tell her she is a good girl and everything is ok? If this is the case, what you are infact doing is rewarding her for her non acceptable behaviour. Don't worry, it is something that we have all been guilty of at some time or other. You just have to learn to think *dog* and not *human* :D

Would it be possible for you to register with us, as I am sure the other members will have more questions for you before they offer advice :-)
