I have a 13 week old yorky male I have had all injections and the Identity disc placed, now I just need him to eat , I had a yorky previously who lived to 16 yrs also a male. my little one will not eat Iams puppy food or butchers or several canned foods I have tried , he will eat a little freshly cooked lambs heart but I cant give him this alone . Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I can do I am very concerned for him, he just sniffs most food and walks away, he drinks water and milk.thankyou June Parris

Are you feeding him what the breeder fed him? Have you spoken to the breeder? What has she/he suggested?

Sometimes a change of diet upsets them, are you giving him dried or tinned food?

Toasted wholemeal bread with mashed boiled egg is always a good replacement meal if the puppy goes off their food.

Also I find my dogs sometimes get bored of their food, (they eat Eukanuba dry food) so I add variety such as: a spoon of Tuna or a spoon of tinned dog food or a Pilchard.

Have you tried cutting out the milk, this could make the puppy think it is full.

If all this fails, I think you should get the Vet to have a look at the puppy as it could be a medical problem.

I hope I have been of some help, look forward to hearing how the puppy gets on.

Greetings & welcome to the forum,
Just a few questions to help get a picture...

How often are you feeding him and how much?
How long has he been off his food?
Since you've had him from his litter, has he ever eaten a regular amount or has he been picky/not eating since you've got him?
Is he on the same food that the breeder reccommended and he was used to?

Blunt questions, but it does help to understand how dire his hunger strike is :) He's a very small dog and might not need as much as you think he does.

If you register (it's free) you will be able to answer this post and join in with us :) :D
We're friendly and don't bite (might snarl occasionally, but that's about it :D )
regards,

Hi Guest

At 13 weeks your pup does not need milk (only humans regularly consume milk once they are weaned :) )

Do not keep changing his food as this will make for a picky pup and unless he is unwell he will eat when hungry.

Pick one type of diet, suitable for a pup, and stick with it for a while.

Hi Christine,

I am thinking of breeding my newf after christmas, the stud dog owner has recommended, pedigree advance puppy weaning food to give to the pups from 3 weeks.

I usually used Eukanuba on all my dogs.

Don't get me wrong the stud dog owner is a well establised breeder and has produced many a champions, so I sure he knows what he is talking about.

Just wanted some advice really.

Kind regards

Lobster;) (kelly)

Agree with Sara (eco) we do need more info, a puppy should not have offal alone, but some along with the food he was being fed by his breeder is ok. He may of course be getting you well trained to run around and cook him all sorts of special things for him.
Register and let us know more detail.
