Hi, I have recently become a fan of scanning, after never doing it at all, but it will tell you roughly how many she is having and then you can plan and feed her accordingly. If there is small litter, then feeding her too genrously may result in large pupies that may be difficult to deliver. At around 5 weeks I start very gradually increasing the amount of food, which should be highish protein, say about 28%. By 8 weeks she will probably be having 3 small meals a day, total about 40% more than her usual diet. The last week they are often "to full of puppies" to have much appetite and I include the odd scrambled egg or tinned sardines for "easily digested goodness". I start to include a little milk at 6 or 7 weeks if she does not normally have it. I just do this to get her used to it as I give my bitches diluted evaporated milk to drink a couple of times a day after whelping to keep fluid levels up, as mine dont want to drink much water. Have to be careful with milk for the frst few days afterwhelping as they can get a bit "loose" if you pack good food in too quickly.
As far as excersise is concerned, dont let her get bumped into by or play roughly with other dogs, but otherwise she will dictate how much exersise she wants, but I stop ball games and "induced" play about 6 weeks.
It is recommended by vets that she is treated for worms whilst pregnant, so that there are far fewer worms passed on to the puppies. The preparations I know of for this are Panacur and Stronghold drop-on. Hope this helps.
