Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Munsterlander as a pet?

I have been thinking about aquiring a large munsterlander puppy. I love the look of the breed but am anxious not to aquire a puppy that is not suitable. I currently have an Irish setter (9yrs) male and a Black Lab (5yrs) male. I do not show either of them but both are obedient well trained and very well loved dogs. I could offer a very good home, in the
countryside, but I am not connected to the hunting world and would not work the dog.. I would be very grateful for
information from breeder/owner of munsterlanders as to their temperament and suitablity for life in family home.
Our children are grown up but we have small grandchildren who visit regularly. I exercise my dogs twice a day for 1hr, they also have run of large garden.

If you can handle a Irish Setter then you will be fine with a munster :-) You need to keep in mind that they are a hunter/pointer/retriever and that obedience training is a must. Nice dogs :-)

Munsterlander Info

FAO: Christine,
would it be possible for you to add Breed Club details to the breed information?

Hello,

Sorry just got this thread now!!!!! Leigh, show me the idiots way to add the LMC details and I will.

Guest, if you want any further info on the breed please do not hesitate to contact me...I do offer impartial advice and as I have no puppies of my own breeding so will not be plugging them!!!!!!!!!!! :)

The breed is active, can be noisy, sometimes boisterous, loves muddy puddles, I think they are brilliant with kids. If you love woodland walks and a dog that uses it's nose to run around with, then a Munster is for you! But not if you're houseproud those black & white hairs get everywhere!!!!!! Temperaments are good, lovable, sometimes hoodlum like, they do not response to harsh treatment though, I find a good "shout" and they know they are in the bad books!!!!

They are active but not hyper like English Springers. They do not make good kennel dogs, they love their owners too much!

Anymore help.....you know where I am!
