My girl whelped 8 puppies two weeks ago, her second litter. Short coated medium-sized breed. Very long and messy natural whelping with lots of fluids but all is well, except she is now losing some clumps of fur. One clump on her thigh about the size of a silver dollar and a 2” stripe on the underside of her tail. Both areas are where there was an accumulation of sticky discharge which we were not able to be completely clean off with bathing so I was presuming a local reaction to this. However today I am noticing redness and hair loss around her eyes. She has been rubbing her face from time to time so I guess it is itchy, but she has not been otherwise scratching. She is on Bravecto so I don’t think demodex is a possibility. Her coat is otherwise soft and luxurious, although I know it will blow after weaning. She is eating well, increased portions of her normal performance diet supplemented with a little fresh cooked chicken and egg. Wondering about rubbing vitamin E oil on the patchy areas to sooth the skin. Any thoughts or experience with something like this? Hormones?
