Topic Dog Boards / Health / Toothbrush recommendations?

I've always relied on raw bones to keep dogs teeth clean, with added scraping when needed but my 10 year olds teeth are getting more stained now. It's not plaque I can scrape off, looks more like he drinks black coffee (he doesn't!). I've started daily brushing, using an enzymatic toothpaste and a finger brush, he doesn't mind this at all so now I'm thinking I could move up to maybe an ultrasonic brush. Does anyone use the Emmi-pet? Does anyone know of a cheaper, but silent ultrasonic brush?

I have the Emmi-Pet and to be honest I think most of the benefit of using it comes from the toothpaste it comes with, not the fancy ultrasonic stuff.

It has stuff in it which breaks down the tartar and you can buy it by itself without the toothbrush (much cheaper!!) and I reckon most of the benefit comes from putting that on and leaving it on for however long they tell you to hold the brush there.

However it also has some other ingredients I don't like so much - so I would probably use it to address a problem and then when things were under control again, I'd stop and switch to a more natural toothpaste.

Thanks, that is good to know, I'll give the toothpaste I have a longer trial then before deciding if I need a toothbrush or not

Had little success with the finger brushes, now use soft (often oral B) from the £1 shop or from Lidl's.
