My miniature poodle often has  a stray hair or two on his eyeball. One eye is particularly affected and gets weepy. I try to remove these hairs by gently brushing the hair immediately around eyes up and outwards away from the eye, and I this is partly successful. But how can I manage this long term? He is groomed every 8 weeks and face shaved. I have previously discussed with the vet who said there are two fine lashes at the corner of his eye which seem to fall in. He doesn’t have entropian. It must hurt and irritate. Any ideas please?

I would be asking for a referral to am ophthalmologist to see if they can remove them safely

We have seen an ophthalmologist already and that’s how I know there are 2 fine hairs that cause the issue. But it’s not just these attached hairs as other stray loose hairs end up in there too.  I have thought about safely removing the two attached hairs permanently like electrolysis but I don’t think this could be an option?

Sorry I can see I have confused things with how I explained. I saw an ophthalmologist about another eye issue and she told me about the 2 lashes at the corner. She told the vet and the vet said these are probably too fine to cause discomfort. But it isn’t just these two hairs. He has a profuse coat.

I have 3 Miniature Poodles and if they go too long in between having their faces clipped, they end up with weepy eyes. 8 weeks is quite a long gap between grooming sessions. I try to do mine once a month. How about booking an extra appointment in between a full clip just for face and feet? That should help.

Thank you Goldmali, do your dogs’ eyes get weepy because there are hairs on eyeball too?

Yes when it gets longer it seems to get into the eyes easily.
