Topic Dog Boards / General / Heads Up for Pet Plan!!

Although this post is about one of my cats, not my dogs!  Last week one day my cat wouldn't eat, didn't want to  go out and quite clearly was very poorly.  So off to the vet we went who gave the cat two injections and told me that he had a ragingly high temperature - a virus that he had picked up, probably airborne he said (which is worrying!).  Took him back next morning and lo and behold temperature back to normal - thank goodness for modern medicine!  However the purpose of this post is to congratulate Pet Plan as apart from my clicking into their website and advising them  of the cat's illness they did everything else.  They liaised with the vets and within a day I had an email saying the claim had been settled and a couple of days later the money was in my bank account, less the excess of course.  Voila!  The last time I claimed on a pet's insurance I seem to remember filling in a claim form myself then taking it to the vets for them to do their bit and then waiting until the insurance company paid up.  So well done Pet Plan.  My two dogs are with the Kennel Club and as I haven't had to claim for any illness yet (fingers crossed) I rather hope that they too will be as quick as Pet Plan.

Many years ago I had the same experience but cannot remember whether it was Petplan or the KC. Deffo one or the other. The dog needed orthopaedic surgery amounting to a couple of thousand pounds. It was settled between the vet and the insurer without me having to pay more than a small excess.

Bought by many is the same. All done online and makes it so much quicker and easier. Their pay out isn't too bad once the vets have sent them the info they require.

I think a lot of things will be going this way which for most of us is really helpful

Direct Line is also the same.

Although these things do depend on your vet practice agreeing to it and many vet practices don't want to deal with the admin...

Surely the practice has to deal woth the admin for any insurance claim as their notes are needed . Won't matter if its electronic or paper .
Direct claims are different as that brings an added risk for the vet as to if any claim is paid or the client has to pay a balance

I don't know why, but the practice I used to be with wouldn't claim direct from the insurance. They insisted customers paid themselves and then filed paperwork to reclaim from insurance. I guess that way they always have their money...

My current practice will allow you to just tell them to claim from your insurance. Then I get an email from Direct Line saying that they've been paid by our vet. It's especially great with ongoing claims - like for allergies. It basically makes the experience feel like the NHS for dogs, with no money changing hands when you go to the vet

We have direct claims with the referral vet Ed are using amd other referral vets have alsp allowed us to direct claims . Unfortunately my general vet expects me to pay up front and then claim back from the insurance . We are pet plan and it's done as previously said rlectronically all pretty smooth except I have to make sure I have money to pay bills directly after treatment.
I can understand why as in some cases if the insurance didn't cover it would leave tne vet chasing fpr money
