Could someone please recommend an accurate thermometer, there seem to be a few available but I can’t see a top quality one that I’d be confident was reliably accurate, thanks

Why not ask your vet what kind they use.
I just have a £2.99 one for the dogs in the cupboard and a similar one for us.

It's really tough because the most reliable are the mercury thermometers - and of course those are considered unsafe and are hard to get hold of these days...

I have just "Googled" Mercury thermometers, there are quiet a few on there to choose from.

That's odd when I googled same all I got was how they were banned in the uk around 2007
I do still have one but
I can remember as a child playing with the Mercury balls when one  broke. Probably accounts for a lot of things,  mad hatters and all  that

I remember my dad would play with and show me the little balls of mercury, great fun how they just appeared to touch so softly and then make one.

I've had a mercury rectal thermometer since we became 'with hound'.  The only thing that's broken is the plastic container
