My brothers 6yr old female Scottish Terrier started passing blood in her urine (she was urinating ALOT).
We first thought she had come into season early due to all the stress she must have felt as she'd moved home a couple of times. She's an ex show dog and had never had puppy injections. My brother took her to the vet to book her in for injections and mentioned the bleeding and excessive urinating. It turns out she has bladder stones. She's to have her op tomorrow.
Has anyone out there had experience of this kind of thing. My brother has only had Daisy a week but loves her to bits and is worrid for her.

hi Bud, I have no personal experience of this condition but I did watch a Veterinary programme showing the operation only the other night. It seemed pretty straightforward to me. A small incision was made in the bladder, the stones removed and the bladder stitched. Apparently what happens is the stones rub and irritate the bladder lining, which causes the bleeding, and the blood passes out with the urine. Once the bitch had recovered from the surgery she was totally normal again. Hope this stops you worrying a bit.

I've not had bladder stones in a dog of my own, but one of mum's terriers (a cairn) had them removed. The dog did very well after the op., recovered fast and lived to be almost 20. She wasn't put on any special diet to prevent recurrence of the stones (this was a long time ago) but the stones didn't come back. I remember that the vet rang up in the middle of the op to say that he needed to spay her as well, but can't remember (or never knew) why this was necessary.

Daisy had her op last Monday and all is well. She's having to go on a rather expensive diet for the next 5 weeks but hey as long as she remains well.
Brother is absolutley thrilled with her.

Hi, Sorry I missed the thread. One of my Westie girls had trouble weeing one day and the vet removed serval marble size stones plus lots of nasty little sharp ones that looked like coral. She recovered fine and was luckily completely continent afterwards. I was offered very expensive food too but declined and made sure she had a low protein diet. She hasn't suffered from them again and the op was 6 years ago ( she was 3) though the vet said it was a possibility, we were lucky. Hope your dog recovers quickly. Her name is Daisy too - co-incidence!!
