Hi all, a question for you,

Can a bitch who has had pups 7 weeks earlier be a surogate mother?

Reason I am asking as Someone I know of has lost her bitch 2 days after puppies born, I suggested my other friend offered her bitch who had pups 7 weeks ago , same breed.

Do you think that was helpful or possible? Would it be better for them to be hand reared?

My freind and I were just throwing thoughts around and trying to think of something helpful or be of some help in anyway.

BFN

Pam

Hi pam, yes, its a good idea, providing the bitch is willing. I have had two bitches foster puppies. Even if there is no milk available, it is comforting for the pups and the bitch will clean them up and keep them warm. However do be very careful how you introduce them, some bitches are happy to do it, and some are not. Best of luck.

Thanks Phil,

We were really just thinking and my friend has not contacted the poor woman.

She may herself have a suitable bitch but I thought I will ask here and then tell my friend who can then call the breeder to offer some help. If that all makes sense.

Thanks
