My 5 month old poodle puppy is a very vigorous boisterous chap who loves is food.  He is big for a miniature poodle.  For some time he brings up his breakfast immediately after eating it and then eats it up again.  This last week or so this is happening each morning.  Should I be worried or should I buy one of those special dishes?  When he eats his evening meal he seems to keep that down.  Any ideas?

I wouldn't buy one the dishes theu are expensive but slowing him down .ay help .I use muffin tins and spread the food in them . Or I have a bowl which upturned gives like a moat so that works as well .u could also add some to a know.  A series of smaller bowls, ive got some small stainless steel ones . Only 2 or 3 or get rid of bowl and spread the food around a bit .
It maybe he is hungry as its his first meal of the day so extra enthusiastic so a little snack at bedtime might help as well.

I've known people who use tennis balls

My boy eats way to quick, so I got him a slowdown bowl when he was a puppy. I got his cheap from the pet hut (pound savers pet section) for a couple pound.

This can backfire, a friends very enthusiastic collie chipped a front tooth on a rock in his bowl, tennis balls might be safer.

Do you do the bedtime biscuit thing? As someone suggested maybe a bedtime snack would help stop him getting a build up of acid from having an empty stomach. It helped with some of my dogs bringing up bile in the early hours of the morning! It doesn't have to be a biscuit it could be just a spoonful of his regular food perhaps.

You could always try scattering food on the floor if you’re using kibble and he’s eating too fast. That’s totally free.

When we started getting this with our hounds, occasionally, we gave a small feed last thing - tinned Chappie which stopped all that.  Even now, I still give Teazel a very small amount of her RC Gastro last thing.  But this was a remedy for bile upchucking overnight.  Not with eating too fast.

We have "would you like a snack?" And "Is it time for Scooby Snacks?"

We don't feed kibble or carbs though, so our snacks are Thrive Duck Treats. Got to say that since switching to raw, we've never had any dogs throwing up yellow bile in the mornings - but we used to get it quite frequently when we fed kibble.

Is it common, this throwing up in the morning thing? I’ve only had two dogs in my life (Labrador and now papillon) and neither have ever done this. Both fed twice a day - Lab on kibble, pap on kibble in the morning and raw at night.

The only time River the papillon has ever vomited was when he had colitis (we think it’s most likely he suddenly decided he couldn’t tolerate metacam anymore).
