Hi,
Been using canine ovulation strips and day 17, says no ovulation yet. But my own castrated male has suddenly become keen and she's standing for him. Been seeing the stud for just under a week to let them get comfortable. He was friendly but not desperate and she was flirty but squealing if he got too pushy. Then three days ago let him mount but it was a slip mating. Two days later a full tie, her not standing as well and a bit vocal to begin with. Do I trust my gut and my own dogs behaviour and go back for a third mating or trust the strips and wait longer?
Thank you
Ovulation strips have no science behind them and don't work. They are a scam people make a lot of money selling...
Was £10 on a whim so no harm no foul. I'll go with my gut and what the dogs are telling me

The one time I used the strips they did not work and had I trusted them AND the seller I doubt I'd have got a pregnancy. They say to e-mail for help with interpreting results, I did as my bitch was flagging like mad on day 8. Got the response that it would be several days yet. I went by the behaviour and got half hour ties on days 10 and 12 and she is now 7 weeks pregnant with a for the breed fairly large litter.
I continued with the strips all through the season and never got a positive result.
Thanks,
I know my girls a late ovulator so the fact that it was day 14 and 16 doesn't worry me. Because day 14 was a slip and she's still flagging away I'm going back for a third mating. I think we must be using the same product as they also had a email service!

The strips have given me a clear result - which has coincided with both bitches' behaviour - each time I've used them, even when in one case the blood tests I was running at the same time said that ovulation was nowhere near and to retest in a week. If I'd relied on the blood test I would never have got the very nice litter from mating when the strips indicated!

Ive used them successfully .
It's an absolute minefield isn't it. She's loosing interested in males now so I've gone with her behaviour and hoping for the best!
Wish me luck
