Hi everyone,
I’m really new to this and my gundog breed has just had a small litter of 3 Cross breed pups on Thursday evening. I was originally told in her scan that there were 4 pups, but she has had 3 and settled nicely. Through the day she is great; only needs checked a few times a day and is feeding, cleaning and cuddling the puppies as expected. At night, she seems to become distressed, pants and often digs at her bedding (I’m using vet bed under the new pups and mother). I am just wondering, is this nighttime behaviour normal? I live alone and don’t have much support so haven’t slept properly in 3 days.
Thank you for any advice you can offer!

She might need a calcium supplement

Perhaps re calcium but if you were expecting four and only three arrived, was she checked to see if she was empty?

Definitely calcium. You need a lot of it and you can't give enough by food form (you would have to give pints of ice-cream every day for eg).

You can use Tums short-term till either she doesn't need it or you get something else in...

Are you sure she doesn't have a puppy still in her? Can you get her to the vets for a check up. They will scan her and also my other concern is her calcium levels. Throw as much calcium foods as you can into her.

> They will scan her

I'd certainly have your vet check her over- and at this point, x-ray would be advisable.
