Hi. I’m very new here but I’m struggling on what to do.
We mated my girl two weeks ago at age 4. We hadn’t planned to but she’s had non stop seasons 2/3 monthly since she was 7 months old. Breeder says this was the option we should go for to then get her spayed after. Anyway. Since 1 week she’s had white spotting discharge. The vet says this was ok as long as there was no smell etc. It continued in very minute drips for this past week until today, it’s still very minute but it’s back to looking like a season. Vet says to keep an eye on her still and see how she goes?
She’s been so clingy and sad looking, just wants to let around. But will jump over us when we enter a room etc or play with the kids. She won’t eat her own dinners as of yesterday but will eat all treats and chicken and rice I boiled for her with some veg.

Does anyone have any information or advice they can give me. Is my girl ok? I also think she has a sore ear but we’re on our way to have that checked now.
Please advise me :( so so worried for her.

How are you counting seasons?

You should count from the first day of one to the first day of next.

Seasons less than 4 months apart are unlikely to.be fertile (no ovulation).

Alternatively your bitch may be having.'Split Seasons'

In a split season the hirmones are too low, and thevseason stops and te-starts some time later, this second attemptay tesult in ovulation usually almost right away, as.she has already done the first part of a season.

Have you been Progesterone testing her through any of these seasons to ascertain if she is actually ovulating at all.

How long have the 'seasons' lasted.(bleeding/swellling).

To be honest unless this bitch is crucial to a breeding plan, carrying lines that cannot be found in another dog/bitch, breeding from such a bitch is a very.poor.idea, as you may be breeding in breeding/fertility problems in future generations.

As for bleeding, bitches whether mated or not will continuebto bleed to the end of a season.

Well fwiw, I had a bitch, a singleton (!) who unlike all my other girls, including her mother, who came into season for the first time at around 8 months, came in bang on 6 months and then started cycling at 5 monthly intervals (all the others cycled at 8 monthly intervals).  As this was clearly pulling her down, and unfortunately she wasn't really as good as I'd hoped, I had her spayed without issue.

As said, bitches will continue their seasons for the full 21 days, whether mated or not.  Mostly it's a slight lightest discharge through the 3rd week, but once after being mating, I had one who went back to a more coloured discharge through the final week.  I felt she'd probably not taken, but as it turned out, she had an uneventful pregnancy and 9 super puppies.

This discharge you have there doesn't sound right and I'd wonder about it being a Pyometra which, if so, is serious.  Yes a Pyo discharge is foul smelling but ......................

I would get the vet to check her out while u are there about her ear . Mamabas raises a relevant point .

I would want her checked over again by the vet. pyros do not always smell. and can be lethal.

regarding spaying, our late weimaraner bitch had seasons 3 months apart- the advice from vet was to get her booked in 6 weeks after season- we did and she was spayed with no complications

I had a 2 year old bitch who started bleeding again a few weeks after her season. She acted 100% normal and there was no smell but there were little white specks in the blood. Turned out it was pyometra and the little specks were pus. So yes I'd be worried too.

This is what a repro vet said to me, he said 4 1/2 months or less between then you will not get a litter from any mating.

I had a rescue Lurcher who had four monthly seasons. Her seasons eventually lost colour and were just a clear discharge, so I had her spayed. Her ovaries were cystic.

My old Labrador had a pyo when she was 5 or 6, and there was no smell and no obvious pus.

She just continued to bleed for longer than the usual time and she was a bit mopey, but not much more than was usual for her when she was in season.

She felt a lot better after her spay. Vet said the uterus was full of pus and there was a tumour there too, so in a way it was lucky she got the infection. Who knows when we’d have detected it otherwise.
