Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Advice on KC Documents

Hi not sure if I have posted this on the right thread but I recently bought a kc registered pup from a breeder and have all the documentation. Have been in touch with this breeder over the last few months whilst bitch was pregnant and picked our pup when he was born on 13th March. I have just come to realize the DOB on the kc certificate is 13th April... is this going to cause a problem when registering pup in my name etc as on paper pup is 4 weeks old but he is definitely 8 weeks. Breeder advised a genuine mistake has been made in the dates and i do believe him as they have been amazing from day one and pups and mum were all great just not sure if this is a problem or not?

If you intend to show the puppy, his dob has to be corrected.   If not and he's just going to be pet, it really doesn't matter - but why not speak to the KC about how best to proceed?

If its is illegal to sell under 8 weeks should this not be picked up ?
I know in this case it was a typo but makes a bit of a mockery of these laws.
Is this just one pup or the whole litter ? If i were the breeder i would want it corrected  even if the dog was not going to be shown

thanks for the advice. He is our pet and no intention of showing. we dont mind the error I just wondered if it would affect me being able to register him under my name

There won’t be any issue transferring ownership but it would have prevented the breeder giving you the free insurance policy that comes with KC registered puppies

Sorry but I am a firm believer in documents being correct, otherwise what is the point!
If you know for sure that they were born a month earlier(as you collected a 8 weeks & not 4) then the whole litter needs to be corrected by the breeder, with the UK KC

When you register a litter of puppies you are asked both the date of mating and the date of birth, so that would mean the breeder had made two mistakes.

Then there is the fact that the KC website has been having major problems ever since September so there's a possibility that it is their mistake.

I doubt you would be able to transfer ownership at the moment as you have to state the date the pup was bought and the dates won't add up at the moment.
What's the date of birth on the microchip?

Whenever there is anything like this going on with registrations, you always have to be thinking of why someone would falsify a birth date (sadly).

It might just be an innocent mistake by breeder or KC, but it could also be that the breeder is trying to breed from a bitch twice within a year or under/over a certain age or whatever....
