Topic Dog Boards / General / not being able to travel with pet food to the EU post-Brexit
- By onetwothreefour Date 02.04.21 21:13 UTC
I have to say I've just been ignoring this. But, after Brexit, people taking their dogs on holiday to Europe (assuming anyone can ever do that again) won't be able to take their dogs' food with them. If they do, it can be confiscated and they can be fined. Is that really going to happen? It remains to be seen. But there was a big hooha about them confiscating lorry drivers' sandwiches...

It's going to mean everyone heading to the nearest Maxi Zoo or whatever as soon as they arrive in Europe to pick up whatever dog food they can. And Europe doesn't have the same brands as the UK often.

Plus, it applies to any meat or animal products. So if you use supplements (joint aid, glucosamine, chondroitin) it will apply to those as well and you won't be able to take them with you.

This is all a freakin nightmare...

Not looked into it and I know the CI are part of the UK but are they seen differently like NI is?

Fairly sure that CI are Crown Dependences with their own laws etc rather than actually being part of UK like NI

I can't imagine it will be enforced, at the harwich/hook crossing the people don't even come out their booths to check how many dogs you have, just hand over the scanner. And I travelled twice with a pet passport that wasn't signed by the vet! It was only noticed our 3rd trip via the tunnel. I really don't think they're going to be checking our cool boxes

Couldn't bring my dogs food into the USA either.

Well I know it's unlikely to be enforced, but just like flying back here from the US, you probably won't get stopped or fined either - but then again, you might. Especially since relations between EU and UK have changed now, with a lot of politics behind that. They might have waved you through in the past - but we were part of Europe then. So it's likely they are going to treat us differently now.
