How many lamb ribs would a sheltie need to replace a meal.

This would depend on how much meat and soft content there would be on the ribs.

I allow 8oz of raw per dog per day (cocker spaniels). sometimes a little more and sometimes a little less. All depending on body condition as nothing is exact.
A  lot of bone without much meat on it or with it, will probably create very white and crumbly poo's. That's ok, just use more meat next time.

If the bones I use are edible/soft like chicken carcass or lamb rib bones, pork rib bones, I would still aim for around the 8oz region.

Do u raw feed?  Bone should be around 10 % of the food but it needs to balanced and amount per day does also depend on the weight of the dog

If u arnt a raw feeder then an occasional.bone to gnaw and lamb ribs are fairly soft . I would only give one  but not as meal replacement.
If u want to start feeding raw and have fb I suggest u join barf uk or buy a.complete form a decent raw food company .

My dog is 13lbs and is not raw fed. The raw food was giving her stinky breath, specifically the chicken so started giving her Chapie instead. This helped the breath but now her teeth are not good so thought I could give her a bone twice a week to help with this. I thought lamb ribs would be good. I can buy them from Morrisons, meant for human consumption so quite meaty.

the odd raw bone to chew is fine . Just give one as an extra not instead of a meal and keep an eye on poo. Too much bone will cause constipation.

If you buy a rack of ribs pull them apart and freeze the rest. You could also try giving her plaque off which cna buy form amazon . It is a seaweed that helps prevent the formation of plaque.

My guys get roast knuckle bones and hooves for their teeth, mainly the knuckles and they get those once a week.  They do a grand job.

Roasted bones! I thought cooked was a no no. I tried Plaque Off but did nothing. I have made an appo8ntement at the vets to have it removed but thinking of the ongoing best thing. She does not like having her teeth brushed.

> My guys get roast knuckle bones and hooves for their teeth,

Giving cooked bones goes against my view of dogs and bones.   Of course I've seen these roasted bones for sale, but have never bought them for mine, and never would.   I hold fast to the belief that the digestive juices of the dog cannot break down a bone, once cooked.   So I don't know why these roasted bones have become popular?

I would only give raw bones and then not weight bearing unless its a very small dog  . If the dog isn't capable of actually chewing bits off the bone then its likley to be safe .
Being totally cautious I would definitely stick to raw and with meat on . Its not just the bine that helps but also ripping off the meat too
I've been raw feeding for nearly 14 years and only give raw even when I had my tiny chi x
There is also a theory that some dogs  just are genetically slanted towards producing more plaque so keeping their teeth perfect is very hard .
Doesn't mean u should give up as dental health has an effect on general health in particular heart just dont knock yourself too much if perfection seems impossible

I have had dogs for 60yrs and this is the first dog I have ever had that had plaque problems. Mind you it’s the first small dog I have ever had, perhaps it’s a small dog thing.

I have a 6KG sheltie and she absolutely loves a bone. The best ones were beef ribs. Mine is inclined to be overweight so on a restricted raw food diet of about 80Gm a day split into 2 meals. A meaty rib would replace say 40Gm. Chicken wings also good. One is a meal,. despite the bones she still has had dental work
