Could you please advise me on what I should be paying for a flat coated retriever, KC registered?

Hi. The average puppy price for an FCR in 2019 was £961 according to ChampDogs. I would guess, although may easily be wrong, that a good breeder who is not profiteering of the covid issue would be charging around £1400 or so for a fully health tested puppy from good lines.

A friend of mine has one and said they always used to be about 1.5 x the price of a Labrador but I’m not sure if this is the case still or if you can go by this with the current covid pricing issue.

The breeder needs to have eye tested the parents (including gonioscopy) and have clear results, hip scores should be around or below the breed median which is 7 I believe. If you can find a breeder that does elbow scores that would be great but I don’t think there are many that do for FCRs for some reason.

I’m sure someone more knowledgeable on the breed will come along with anything I’ve missed.

I would contact the main breed club and speak to the secretary, they will know what the reputable breeders are roughly charging and can go through all the health tests you would want to see done, they can often recommend breeders who are planning or have a litter due or even on the ground. Chances are most breeders will have a good waiting list so getting onto a waiting list before a litter is born is the best idea.

Agree with both the above comments .I have an fcr and do keep an eye on pups and prices  .
Definitely speak to the breed club they are generally very helpful and will also give u details of breeders .
