Can anyone shine a light on what happened to this pup last night.Up until their supper they were all absolutely fine. They are raised right in the heart of our family livingroom and adored! I went to feed them and one little pup didnt come running. When i picked him he couldnt walk, was pushing his front feet up but dragging his back feet and falling over and just staring,it was awful!  I rushed him to the out of hours vet where they kept him in,took blood tests etc but ruled out low blood sugar etc.this morning they called to say he is running around, eating and doing the toilet as if nothing happened.WE are of course delighted but they are baffled and so are we so i thought id ask on here to see if anyone else has had anything similar. Thanks

Temporary Abdominal pain from trapped wind/ upset tummy?

Years ago one of my adults staying gor the day at my dads had devoured a liad if bread put out for the birds.

She seemed unablebto get on her feet.

At the vets during examination, being palpatedshe let off wind, wagged her tail, got up like nothing jad been wrong.

Another thought is the pup had fallen, been jumped on, and from pain had temporary fear of walking???

It looked neurological,he couldnt stand, was just staring and rolling around.Ive had a pup in the past with a windy tummy and it definately wasnt that,he wasnt crying and didnt have a high temp either,i was so sure he was going to die.As far as im aware he hasnt fallen etc..they do get out to play but are always supervised.

The staring can be due to pain. It often is in older dogs, anyway...

What breed is this? Sorry to hear this sad news.

He is a cocker spaniel.

So sorry, I was wondering if it was one of the breeds that can suffer from neurological issues but I don’t know cockers enough to comment. Perhaps it had a minor accident that has caused it (caused by mother or litter ages for example). So all I’ll say is sending positive thoughts and hope you get to the bottom of it, it must be disappointing and upsetting to deal with.

Only thing I can offer is my previous GSD was about 18 mth old, he was up on an armchair and went to get off, front end got down but back legs completely collapsed and laid there with 'light on but no-one at home' response to us, no crying or anything else, as you did, we rushed him to the vet who diagnosed a severe colic, he had several shots of meds and came home  in the morning totally fine.

I forgot to say in my first post that my girl also had a shot of anti spasmodic.

Yes, as far as I remember Zan had Buscopan - which is used for everything from horses to people to treat colic and I think the other was pethadone for pain.

I had a pup who started going like this at around 5 weeks. Nothing was ever found but it was some sort of epilepsy - which isn't known in the breed.

Did the pup ever have an episode again or was it a one off?
