Hi, I have a 6month old whippet and although he has been great in terms of his training and obedience he has started weeing on our beds daily with in the last couple of weeks. Any advice as to a possible reason and how to stop him doing it?

Dogs can urinate to mark territory as well as just to relieve themselves. At 6 months the hormones can kicked in and some can act like stroppy teens and training can regress for a while.

I'd lock them out of the bedrooms. Keep taking them out for frequent loo breaks. Get special cleaning products to completely remove all smell of urine. Dogs can smell it even if we can't and if it smells like wee, they'll wee on it.

Patience, prober cleaning and preventing access to areas of the house they're currently wee in.

Also worth a UTI check. UTI can cause inconvenience

and the weather is horrible. our whippet needs a firm push out of the door in cold or wet weather-and watching to make sure she actually does something!  They do really feel cold

My first action, apart from shutting the door to the bedroom(s), would be to make sure he hasn't developed a UTI.  There's no point trying to correct this is he can't help what's going on.    Once he's found to be clear, then you have to reinforce the toilet training.  Some of this could be down to it being cold outside, so he doesn't properly empty when let out - have you watched/gone with him to check what he does outside?  Bearing in mind males don't really fully empty, always keeping something back to mark.   And the suggestion re any change in the norm for the household (the festive period - if that was possible this year) might be relevant too.

Does this happen when you are in the home with him or if and when he is left home alone for a short time? Is it a small amount of urine or puddles?

First off, get a vet check if you can.

Has he been spooked in the home recently or suddenly become aware of foxes or other dog noises? Where does he sleep at night? Is there a pattern in terms of time of day he urinates on the bed or does it seem to be random?

If this is happening when you are in the home and when he has free access to you, then bar access to the bedroom, do proper cleansing and perhaps a look at daily routine and enrichment would be worthwhile.

If it is happening if you pop out for a short while then you may need to consider SA. Also consider if he is much more bonded to one of you? Very occasionally a dog can get upset if they lose access to a favoured person.
