I’m a fan of Akela 80:20 kibble, my papillon really likes it and he’s in great condition. They recommend the salmon variety for pups and River’s still doing well on it at 19 months. He does get a raw meal in the evening but he was on 100% kibble before that and it did suit him.
I can also recommend the allaboutdogfood website if you want to compare different foods. You can specify how much you want to pay, if you want to avoid certain ingredients, and various other things.
You’ll probably hear as many different food recommendations as there are members here though to be honest! But I think if you go for something with a named meat/fish as the first ingredient you won’t go far wrong. So “chicken” or “dried salmon” but not “meat” or even worse, “meat and animal derivatives” because that could be anything, whatever the company can get cheapest at the time. I don’t think dogs need cereals so I choose grain free but I’m not strict and will give non-grain free treats occasionally.
That works for my boy, but in the other hand I know dogs out there doing brilliantly on Chappie because it’s easier for them to digest. You might have to try a few brands before you find one that works for your dog.
