Hi guys

I’ve just purchased some new pvc type kennels.  It has a heater in protected by a metal grid which is fine, however the wire goes up the wall to the switch.  I used plastic trucking to hide it but the dogs have chewed it straight off and keep pulling the wire out.  Wondered if anyone knows of any trucking which is dog proof?

Also inside the kennel area is quite big and just have a plastic bed in there with throws.  Is there a better and warmer way of making a bedding area?

Finally how can I get them used to using the run for toileting and not the bedding area with being so big?

Did you ever house train them with newspaper on the floor?

Then why not continue to put puppy pads or newspaper in the outside run.

Thank you.  Tried that.  There three now so been a long time since pads and when I put them in they just ripped them to shreds ha ha

Just my thought- do you really want them toileting in the kennel run? Obviously it is better than their bed, but still, I would not be impressed if my dogs toileted in the kennel/run. If they are housetrained, it is no different really. Just take them out regularly.

Maybe divide the sleeping area off a bit so its more cosy if you think its chilly . A bit like a kennel within a kennel but I would have thought given their breed and coats that at least atm its not going to be that cold if you have eating. I assume you have a thermometer available to check .

Newfiegirl: Agree with Furriesfriends; Hollow Metal Pipes are the only thing they cannot chew. (make sure they have no lead content though).
Re pooing in run....dogs are dogs no matter what the age so I'd rather they poo in the run rather than their beds.(although it does happen)

I have 2 outside runs each 24ft x 12 ft.  They are floored with yacht varnished board covered with artificial grass on top. The dogs poo all over it but 'virkon' powdered disinfectant followed by power washing sorts that. 

The bedding areas of each have wood shavings as a cover and any poos can be easily lifted having been absorbed into the shavings.

It makes no difference if your dogs are house trained or not - they will poo. wee, wherever a previous dog has.
