My girl had puppies on 28/05, all done amazingly she’s been the perfect mother and they are all due to leave next weekend. Since the puppies have been born she’s been aggressive towards people coming round and my current dogs(understandable).

My issue is now she’s back on walks etc, the aggression towards people coming round and my dogs has gone, she is however trying to take chunks out of any dog she sees/comes near her. Heckles on the back straight up and jumping round like a savage. She’s never been aggressive prior to the puppies and perfect to walk but she’s an absolute nightmare.

Anyone experienced this? She is still very very maternal to the puppies and I’m wondering if her hormones are just still very high, all my previous bitches had returned to normal behaviours by 4/5 weeks.

Just getting concerned that once the pups are gone(keeping one) that she is still going to be aggressive. She is getting spayed which I’m also hoping will calm her back down?

Any advice on this from experience of it would be great

I suppose it will depend on the breed, but my bitch was perfectly happy to have people and my other dogs around her pups.  She was fine with them being picked up and handled, more so the older they got, she was ever so slightly 'I'm watching you' when they were first born; in fact I had three people helping me when the pups were young, and even during the whelping had a helper, as I was scheduled to work, and she didn't bat an eye lid, in fact she positively loved the attention.  Her mum was fine with people and other dogs, she was a bit funny with my FCR at first, as she was a newcomer to the household still at that point.  I'm not sure spaying will make much difference tbh, but this is the problem with breeding, you really don't know until you've had a litter and then your bitch can change character I'm afraid.  It will just be a case of see how she goes, perhaps she will calm down but there is no real set answer I'm afraid.

I would not really be walking a bitch with pups anywhere that she is coming into contact with strange dogs to be honest. Please walk her in quieter locations and wait until her life and routine are back to normal before exposing her to anything she worries about. Otherwise you risk only consolidating the response and seeing it become engrained and learned and even when hormones return to normal, she may keep doing it...
