Please note this is NOT me but I have just come across this on a whippet facebook page I am on and am so disgusted.

I was due to take ownership of our new Whippet puppy in 4 weeks, but the breeder - having asked for and agreed £1600 - emailed last week to say she was auctioning the puppies with a starting bid of £2500. We are so disappointed, for us and the little pup, just horrid. So if any of you genuine whippet lovers have pups looking for a loving new home, please let me know

please someone tell me this is against KC rules/breed club rules/some other law?   it is such a vile thing to do .  the puppy was vastly over priced at £1600 but to do this is so beyond the pale

Abhorrent! I'm absolutely speechless. Why are some humans so vile?!

Just when I thought I had read it all. Also disgusted...I have a very strong feeling dogs are not allowed to be auctioned.

There are regular Sheepdog auctions - the world record price was recently broken. I'm not sure whether there is a KC rule though.
It might be worth having a word with the Local Authority licensing officer though.

'Auctioning' the puppies :eek::eek::eek::eek:

Forget about the Kennel Club - even if they are actually registered!   If this is a kennel, licensed with the local authority, they might be interested but I suspect as long as the Kennel has paid the fee, probably not.  How about DEFRA?

Yes, working Border Collies are auctioned, and attract vast sums for a fully trained proven good working dog.  But this is a touch different, and if there is a 'contract', verbal or written, to pay this breeder the original asking price, I'd suggest that's ground to take this breeder to Court right there.

What is this world coming to!!!

ps  If people are bidding on this litter, heaven knows where they will end up.  Probably least of all in a loving permanent home as pets.  The next generation of breeding machines?

Unfortunately the person whom made the post on fb, wont name the breeder, so there is nothing that can be done :( and angry face

They need to report this person to HMRC at the very least. It's immoral and greedy.
- By masajackrussell [gb] Date 16.07.20 20:58 UTC
Nobody seems to want to name anyone which is half the problem
- By weimed [gb] Date 16.07.20 21:00 UTC
I can understand though, kind of people who auction puppies are not nice people.  They likely would not be amiable to being reported and may take it out on who they hold responsible

No I get that I do but that’s the same as reporting a crime. If nobody stands up to these people they just carry on doing it. If someone had screwed me over I’d be plastering it everywhere to try to prevent some other poor sod having to go through it.

I have seen puppies being sold in a raffle :eek:

There is a very dubious site that is well known to some people who have been monitoring it for a while and it is known for selling dogs at ridiculous prices and in very worrying circumstances. I have seen several adverts for puppies being sold in raffles on that site.

Its illegal to sell animals as raffle prizes.. that needs reporting.

I bet I know which site you mean, and there are some extremely dodgy people on there that you wouldn't want knowing your identity. But raffling animals is illegal, not just immoral, and needs reporting.

I;m speechless - just hope that other breeds don't start doing this!

It has been reported and yes the people there are definitely not the type that would take it well. The whole site is being monitored very, very carefully and a lot of work is going on behind the scenes in that respect.

The gambling commission in 2019 start that it is illegal to have animals as raffle prizes.
There is also a fine line between raffles and prize draws . A raffle if that is what is being claimed it is by the organisation is illegal unless it is for a charity and or other non profit making organisation.
FB have tried to stop this via them  so it should be reported to both FB and the gambling commission and possibly the rspca . .
That's my understanding from having a quick Google. There should be lots that can be done to stop it at least in FB and the site people are referring to

I don't like to deal with puppies.
