Hi, I am collecting a puppy from Czech Republic in September and considering different transport options. I would like to see the breeder and the puppy onsite so I not considering using a Pet courier

I could either travel by car the whole way or fly from Prague into Schiphol with the puppy and then get the ferry in Hook of Holland back to the UK

Has anyone experience in flying with the dog from Prague to Schiphol? Recommended airlines? Can the puppy travel with you in the cabin (German Shepherd) or does it need to go on cargo? Should I buy the kennel in Czech Republic? Sorry for so many questions around the logistics. Thank you

I do have some experience with imports but on behalf of my parents.

My honest recommendation would be to fly out and meet the breeder a few days before puppy is ready to travel and then get a ground agent to meet you in France, Belgium or Holland for you to make the last leg with the dog.

I say this because flying dogs is expensive and can be filled with more red tape. Even with my suggestion above, I imagine it would still be cheaper than flying you both back. If anything goes wrong if it were me I would prefer to be in my native country rather than at another European airport trying to resolve.

There are some excellent animal specialist ground couriers in Europe who will keep you updated during the trip and take good care of your dog. Airlines on the other hand and your dog is at the hands of airport workers.

If you do go down the airline route it must be arranged in the country of origin and they will supply the crate for you at cost. If you go on the government website and search for approved routes you can then find information on approved IATA approved airline and ground carriers to contact, ATS gruppe in Poland offer a good standard of pet transport throughout Europe and do an annual Cruft’s transport.
