Hello all....this is a genuine question as I’m feeling a bit hard done by at the moment.

I’m aware there is big demand for lab pups at the moment and have been searching in vain for months on lots of websites.

I registered my interest on champ dogs  for puppies/litters for said breed. This morning I had an email notifying me of a new litter but I wouldn’t have priority access unless I paid a sum of I think £10.95 which in my excitement to get on a waiting list ASAP I duly did. This was minutes after receiving the email. Upon clicking on the advert for the new litter it already said no more calls/texts etc as inundated.

You can imagine I felt a little ‘had.’

Any advice from website owners?

We’re constantly being warned about scammers at the moment...why do I feel like I just have?

I think the cost is to be on the list not for each litter. I imagine its a one off fee and further litter info will be free .
This is only a guess as I have never used that facility.  I would be very surprised if champ dogs is anything but ethical on this matter having been here for years

Ready to eat hat if not :)

As for finding you new pup . You are quite right its not the best time to find litters as many responsible breeders arnt breeding for many reasons. Its going to be very hard seeing a pup and parent in with teh rules as they are. Also as you will see if you browse the forum for others looking for pups warnings are being given about lack of socialisation you cant really take a pup on public transport at the moment .Access to vets is tricky unless an emergency , training classes arnt open etc.

However if you look in the breeders section here an contact breeders they may beable to advise for the future and speak to breed clubs .
If you search on sleeping lions posts about exactly this she has given good info on health tests to look for as well

Thanks for your reply furriefriends. I believe the amount I paid gives me access to view new lists before non paying members until November.
I understand that champdogs is a business and needs to make money.
The bit I was confused with was although I’d paid to ‘view’ a post there really was no point in me having paid as they had closed their waiting list already....and that is where I feel ‘had.’
I’m sure someone will help me out from champdogs though and tell me where I’m going wrong. I was going to ask on Facebook as someone recommended champdogs from there but thought I’d ask for help here first.

Contact admin direct I am sure they will answer all your queries in full .
I agree that cd and the breed clubs or the kennel club are the better places to find breeders that are likely to be responsible.
Of course you still have to check out what u find out take nothing for granted wherever it comes from .have a read of the link in the breeders section about  buying a puppy as well .

Thanks so much furriefriends. Although no pups around I’ve had some lovely emails from breeders through the kc club and advice and numbers of other breeders who are mating and for free so maybe I’ll stick to that....but who knows my payment on here to view litters may pay off in the meantime. Fingers crossed

Are you sure the email alert wasn't for the other newer litter? As looking at the litters section for labs there are two ads that are not marked as 'all puppies reserved ' and of those two I can look at one which has those exact words in the ad and then there is the newest ad which I can not look at as I'm no logged in or have piroity access to view it.

Dont forget u can contact breeders here on the breeder section and that doesn't cost. The litter list is sort of wjats just come up rather than finding a breeder for the future. Hope I've explained that correctly
U need to build up relationships with potential breeders so it's not just finding  a breeder with pups today. U need to get to know each other as they will want or should do ask mamy questions of you and you of them
The breed clubs often have litter secretary who will direct u as well .
Good luck hope it all works out

The email you get as a notification is specific to an advert and yes as you say before you pay it shows as having pups available which is why I paid to have full access to the post...but the breeder has posted further down in their advert no more calls/texts as inundated.....which you dont see until you pay. There are no lab puppies for sale or any waiting list to join. No worries...you live and learn and this puppy finding is all new. I was probably a little naive and definitely won’t be parting with anymore money to ‘view’ a new listing that doesn’t have any puppies available.
Thanks for your help and replies.

To be honest, given how few pups are around and the ridiculous things happening at the moment, I would just postpone looking for a puppy for 6 months.  You will have choice from many more litters and breeders that way.... probably more reputable than those who continued breeding during the crisis too.

Thank you...I think I’ll take your advice. I’ve read so many horror stories of scammers. I guess most people are like me and completely clueless. We WILL get our puppy one day but for now I’ll have to make do with the kids!
Thanks all

Im a bit confused. Were CD charging to view a litter on this site?
I'm on the litter emailing list for my own breed so if I'm not aware of one if good i can recommend and I don't pay anything to view them.

I would contact admin if this was on this site.

Or are you saying the breeder is charging the fee to go on a waiting list, again this would need to be raised with Admin too

Hi all
Completely new to this and I wondered how it all works which may seem daft! I was put in touch with a breeder through a friend. They recommended me look here for her bitch and sires health checks etc.. But I honestly don't know how to find that information!
