
Scientifically speaking the givernment shouldn't have been taken by surprise as their own scientific advisors were warning them back in December about tjis dpecific virus, but sadly they chose to totally ignore the advice.
I very much doubt that the majority of the UK population has had/has this virus, there is no scientific evidence to prove this at this time. It will obviously be more common in high density conurbations like cities & large towns.
As to urgent operations, they are still going ahead, a friend has recently had a mastectomy to remove her equally recently diagnosed cancerous breast. Another friend is starting treatment for her recently diagnosed throat cancer. Elective operations like weight reducing treatments, are being delayed, but nothing that is life-threatening
Should the restrictions be lifted ? If 33,000 people have died despite lockdown. The results would have worse without lockdown. I do think those pressing for their particular hobby/pastimes to be exempted are being sone what selfish
