Interested in current thoughts on giving an oxytocin ‘clean-out’ shot following a normal whelping. Thanks!

No, it's not recommended any longer as best practice - unless you have a reason to be particularly worried.  Even if you don't see all placentas, they generally come out with the usual gubbins in the next day or two...

I'd not give this but if my vet felt it was necessary, fine.   Surely better than risking retained birthing material, including a puppy that didn't make it, in my opinion.

In 45+ years I've never used it after whelping.  And I've never had anything retained either.

In fact I've never had the need for this to be given either - but we haven't had THAT many litters, and some were C.Sections.   But again, if it was felt necessary by my vet, then I'd agree.
