My girl was taken to the stud yesterday day 13 (although this is from the first light spot seen on the tissue maby tiny but earlier) she was flagging a lot and very keen and so was he.Now we have used this boy before with her and she had a stunning litter of 6 hence the reason we are using him again. He is a very experienced stud although occasionally has been known to get eager just a tiny bit early but usually is spot on.However as keen as he was he just could not penatrate her and was getting very fustrated with himself.Up until the day before he wasnt interested. This is my girls 2nd and final litter,i want to hold back a pup and using another stud is most definately not an optopn because i kept a pup from the last litter who is doing tremendously well in the ring and im desperate to hopefully keep another before i retire her.She is acting extremely flirty, flagging all the time and seems 100% ready.Something i havent done and never have is to examine her internally to see if she is ready, ive never done ths and to be honest dont know what im looking for..can anyone give me clear advice on this and tell me what im looking for.she was mated day 13 last time but perhaps im thinking its different this time. Its very unusual for this boy not to be able to do the deed.Any advice appreciated.Thank you

At your own admittance you do not know what you are looking for, so please do not try. You could do more harm than good. If you think there is a problem within your bitch, take her to a Vet and if they feel it is necessary to 'check' her, then they will. Personally, I would
trust the stud dog. If he says he can't (for whatever reason) then don't force the issue.
I have not tried this nor would i try without seeking advice which is what ive done..i would however like advice about this subject other than the examination part.

Most likely she's not ready yet.
Thanks..i think because she has always has a season and fertile time almost like clockwork im forgetting that many can change from season to season but both seem so keen,i will just keep trying x
nellygal, there is no pattern you can rely on, as to when a bitch is ready. She can be ready day 12 on one season and day 25 on another. They don't always ovulate at the same time in every season.
If you really want to know, then you will need to progesterone test her at the vet's. Or just trust the stud dog.
Is anyone there to help guide his penis to the right place? I mean, if she is standing, flagging, and allowing him to attempt and he is just not able to penetrate, it doesn't necessarily sound to me like she's not ready....
Up til now i have never blood tested my girls and always been spot on but just goes to show things dont always go to plan.Yes the stud owner did try to guide him but he simply couldnt manage then got fed up tryng or perhaps he realised himself he was a little ahead of himself and she just wasnt ready.Im going back tommorrow to try again but will keep you posted x

I can't think what you'd 'look for' with an internal examination - re whether or not she's ready!!
If he can't penetrate her and he's an experienced stud dog, have you considered whether there's something physically wrong with the stud dog now that's preventing him getting the job done - spine?
Not my biz. but I have to question why you'd do a repeat mating, if you got what you wanted from the first one?

I had no idea there was a rule that once you kept a nice puppy from a litter yu werent allowed a 2nd?I am so delighted..i want a 2nd pup..simple although this is not what i asked and is of no ones concern. The stud dog did his job today so i worried for nothing but thanks to those who gave me advice and helped put my mind at rest

"Not my biz."
As I said BUT rather than put my bitches at risk (which everytime you mate a bitch, is the case!) IF I got what I wanted from the first mating, I don't see the point taking another, especially a repeat mating, unless by chance you have somebody wanting a similar puppy to the one you kept from the first litter? Which was what happened with the breeder of our second hound. She wanted another litter from her bitch and I persuaded her to use the same dog, hoping for a puppy just like the one she kept from the first litter. As so often happens however, the boy we bought was really not at all like the boy she'd kept from the first litter.
We only bred, for the next generation ......................
Goodness, the poor person did a breeding and loved what they got and has had success in the show ring - so wants another pup from the same breeding. What the heck is wrong with that??
Why does there have to be SOMETHING, no matter what it is, that has to be criticised about ANYONE asking for help?!

And likewise about anyone offering an opinion???
People have different opinions...

Yes they do.......
So all sides are going to express their opinions, and that leads to discussions and debates....I'm not sure what your point is?
