My 10yr old border terrier has really itchy feet which she is forever licking. It appears to be a grass allergy. Vet gave Apoquel but she get the runs on it. I give her piriton tho I don't know it really does anything.. I've tried numerous creams etc but nothing seems to stop her licking. She doesn't do it in autumn/winter.
Just wondered if anyone on here has found a product that really does work ?
I've been through all sorts of lotions and potions for environmental allergies but unfortunately non helped. Have u tried washing her feet after walks and getting some boots to wear.i know its worked for some. U could ask the vet about cytopoint just for.the high season as it seems to have less side effects and u may only need a couple of Injections as they last a few weeks for most.
I don't remember what it was called (and have just had a clear out of previous vet paperwork so I can't check now - typical!) but one of my hounds, after he was castrated for medical need as an old boy, started to have allergies (mainly ears) in the summer. My then vet gave him an injection (must have been steroid) which was said to be slow-release, and it was - it worked. You might see if something like that is avaiable
Dried stinging nettles as a feed supplement are supposed to be very good for allergies, its worth a try as a huge bag is only cheap. You can get them on line easily.
That's a good idea Brainless . Thank you I never thought of that, ie being a barrier. She's in the itch scratch itch cycle now but I'll certainly bear Vaseline in mind .Thanks to all who replied, some good suggestion. My girl got to 9 years before all this started.
