Topic Dog Boards / General / coat has never seemed to recover after gardia
- By peppe [gb] Date 07.04.19 18:48 UTC
My aussie had gardia when she came in from abroad at 7 months obviously don't know how long she had it. it was treated with Panacur but her coat has never seemed to recover properly. The only thing I cannot give her is any type of oil as it makes her sick. Can anyone help?

Oily fish ? Things like tinned sardines pilchards or mackerel.

How often would you give the oily fish and would you give the eggs raw or cooked and again how often. Would that help increase thickness of coat.

with raw feeding we suggest up to 20 % of diet and unless anyone else knows otherwise I cant see why that would be any different if kibble fed. But you can start slowly and just make sure it suits your dog . The only reason to give fish in his case oily fish is for omega 3. Raw eggs the whole egg yolk and white one or two a week. watch poo as well just in case it is a bit too much .
Omega3  generally improves skin and coat condition or rather lack of is one thing that can cause issues with coat and skin. I have been working for years with a derm vet due to allergies in two dogs and the omega 3 is what has been suggested for the reasons given. Hope that helps

Well my Basset came to us, at 4 months, with Giardia.   In all honesty, I didn't notice anything wrong with his coat either before we rid him of the Giardia, or afterwards.   I think this may be coincidental with your dog.   Get her onto a good balanced diet, whether raw or complete - your preference, and over time, her coat should improve.  Your vet, as long as he knows his stuff re diet, may be able to suggest a suitable supplement to help her condition pick up.   Given her age, some of this coat condition might be hormonal - has she been spayed?

Might be worth having thyroid checked just to rule out out. Addison's affects coat but would expect other symptoms by now. Could be worth speaking to a vet
