Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Another food question!

So pup is being fed on Eukanuba large breed puppy with a little tripe added to each meal -  free flow by Natures Menu.

I read that this kind of tripe is not really nutritionally beneficial and wonder if its worth switching  to the green tripe or just leave as is?

Thanks

Nature's  menu tripe is green tripe although I know it looks grey .it  is a benefit as  part of a raw diet and I use it in my dogs diet but we are 100% raw
I don't understand why if he is on a complete kibble which eukanuba is  the tripe is being added unless it's such a tiny amount only for tast. More than just a taste would put the balance of vitamins and minerals out which u don't want especially where calcium and phosphorus is concerned

I read that its white/grey as its bleached or cooked and that removes the nutrients that tripe would otherwise provide. Im not sure why its added to his diet furriefriends, but it really is just a small amount so maybe for taste. he's not allowed the tripe for the next couple of days after his tummy upset so maybe a good time to remove it altogether?

Not sure where u read that but it's always been sold as green and if they are bleaching or cooking it there would be a backlash somewhere especially with raw feeders it might be very well washed but as u say bleached is pretty pointless.  I admit nm is not a favourite supplier of  mine u can get much better quality raw should u want it.many use it as it's easy to buy and convenient

I would remove it and if it's given to encourage him to eat the eukanuba in time I would look at changing his food to something he eats and enjoys.

I am not in favour of adding things just to get a dog to eat his normal food .if he were unwell that's different. Much better to find a good food that the dog is excited to eat

Would be interesting to hear what the breeders thoughts are

For human consumption tripe is cleaned and you then se it as a creamy frilly piece in the packaging.  It is not minced for human consumption.

It is very popular cooked as a spicy soupy stew in Poland, and looks like chicken noodle soup as the tripe is cut into fine strips.

I believe in the UK one way of cooking it was with milk which to me sounds revolting. Also Tripe and Onions, but not sure how it would be cooked?

Oh my god, I cant imagine eating such a thing brainless, but I'm vegetarian anyway lol.

He's quite happy with just the Eukanuba today, I believe its just the go to combo of the breeder as our last pup from the breeder was on the same diet too.

I would drop the tripe and use the eukanuba as it's complete as it is

Yep that's right brainless . cooked in milk with onions. Something I have yet to try :)and the nm is definitely not for human. Consumption lol

Me too -  the breeder of our second hound used to feed raw tripe to her hounds and it smelt so bad that she kept it in the coal cellar under her property!!   I do use Butchers Tripe mix with the AG complete we now use,  which doesn't smell to bad, but eating it myself (cleaned for human consumption) is not on my menues!!

U get used to the smell!  , I usually have a few whole ones in the freezer . It only smells when it's being handled and doesn't last long enough in the bowl to be smelling . :).
