Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Adult watchdog type dog change in behaviour since getting a

Hi, so we have had our second German Spitz puppy for 3 weeks now. Our adult took to him really quickly (a lot quicker than we expected to be honest (was expecting some jealousy at having to share our attention etc). Pup of course idolises adult. We have noticed adult is more 'on alert' and takes his roll as 'watchdog' more seriously than he did,it's like he's gone a bit backwards in his training. Just wondered if others with watchdog type breeds had any opinions on this...half of me thinks it's because of the disruption of his normal routine/increased arousal levels with having a constant playmate/decreased walks whilst pup settles in etc. but half of me also thinks that it may be because (he's protective by nature) of him taking his roll more seriously now because there's a baby in the house- simply because if pup whimpers in his sleep for example or if we tell pup 'no' in a stern voice he gets worried, checks pups okay and glares at us! This former mummy's boy ignored me for a good 10 minutes yesterday after I got back from pup's second vaccines at the vets and then when he did realise I existed he was half greeting me whilst still playing with pup. Hope it makes sense, sorry about the long post. TIA.
