Hi everyone it's been a while since Iv logged in on here but wanted to ask some advice regarding my bitch who is hopefully in pup. I'm due to get her scanned in the next week (28-30 days post 2nd mating ) but I just wanted to ask a question.

When I had my first litter 3 years ago the bitch was never sick and unfortunately had to have an emergency c sec in whelp due to size of pups and absorption of some resulting in a small litter of 2 , I kept both bitches and didn't sell on as my heart couldn't take parting them, fast forward 3 years and Iv now mated one of the girls from that litter to carry on the generation but she has been sick every morning for the last 3 days , yellow phlegm like sick and has become very clingy to me , is this a normal thing ?? I know no two pregnancies are the same and both are very different when I compare Them , I'm just a little concerned that is has been 3 days on the trot when it never happened at all the first time round

Any advice would be greatly appreciated she is currently on royal canin pug should I give her some boiled chicken instead or leave her diet as it is until confirmation of her in pup ??

Iv just re ordered the book of the bitch in hope this will put my anxiety levels at ease !

Morning sickness is likely to occur at implantation time in the early part of second trimester.

Some of mine would have 'morning sickness', others didn't.   Take my advice () and leave her diet as it always is, maybe cutting back on the bulk towards the end of her pregnancy when she won't have as much room for food.  Like us, there's absolutely no need to be getting her fat and make for complications with whelping.   In the wild, bitches would remain lean after all, as we should.  The pups will take when they need from her and it's really only necessary to adjust her diet once you know how many puppies survive through whelping.   Again if she only has a few she won't need much more food - if she has a lot to cater for, THEN you adjust by upping the amount she has to eat.

We had our bitches wormed and boosters brought up to date before the mating, and they were on a good quality diet throughout, so no adjustment was ever needed.   Their puppies were usually a good size, even litter, maybe even bigger than some of my breed at birth.

I don't regard Royal Canin as a good quality food, and all this breed-specific food is only a sales- ploy.   You'll find the make-up is the same, even if size of the kibble differs, small for small breeds, and larger for bigger breeds.

She's had all boosters up to date and I wormed and flee treated before mating , I also intend to have regular health check ups through final stages to check her hips and body will go on to whelp with ease and if for any reason the vet thinks otherwise or if the pups may appear large I will elect to have a c section done on her to prevent any unnecessary complications for her. Thankfully the sickness has stopped today I was just a little alarmed it was 3 days on the go , I have heard of morning sickness in dogs even though my first bitch never was but it was the time frame I was concerned about but I appreciate all given advice from you. The reason she is on royal canin was this was what my other girl was on from purchase and I just continued throughout to my own first litter on advice from the vet , out of curiosity what do you recommend I should maybe change over too at a later date ? Of course il leave it for now but it would be interesting to hear what other people feed their dogs on ? I presumed it was a good rich food with vital nutrients for them as a dry mix ?? Find out early next week wether she's in pup everything is prepared and vet is on call already have a check up booked for next week should she be pregnant , going into this second litter with far more knowledge of what can go round after the first time round so I'm already 1 step ahead in preparations x thank you both for replying x
