Topic Dog Boards / General / Best Grooming tool for short haired Jack russell?

I went to the pet store intent on buying one of those rubber grooming gloves for my dog, but the lady there talked me out of it saying the rubber nipple things wont get out his short/fine stray hairs, she instead advised to get a slicker brush..

Long story short, i didn't end up buying anything lol

What do you all use on your short haired breeds? I have a regular bristle brush here, but that doesn't seem to be doing a good job, I hardly get any loose hair out with it. The weather is warming up here (Australia), and he has started to shed more than usual.

A genuine Zoom Groom, or the Fish Brush copy from PaH. Couldn't cope without mine.

I use a slicker on poodles and can't imagine it would be much use on a short coat. It's really good for detangling long coats so the greyhound comb will go through and for lifting the small tufty matts of she'd hair, but I can't imagine it taking anything but thickly matted short coat out.

If it's to remove loose coat my friend has a sort of block thing called an equigroomer that she uses on her labs and pony and it's AMAZING.

Well shows how much she knows...you wouldn't use a slicker on a short coated breed(used to be a dog groomer)!!

The best thing I use on my short coated breed is a pair of washing up gloves...does the job brilliant, gets out the dead coat, easy to find & not at all expensive

Thank you all. I now know what to look for.

I too was a bit bamboozled with the slicker brush recommendation for a short haired breed, just made no sense.

Slickers are useless on JRT coats, trust me!  Zoom Groom definitely.

Also, a bath with a good rub of her coat will get a lot out.
