My experience has been that no sign of clear discharge from 21-28 days = missed breeding. Has anyone who checks their girls regularly for this gone on to have a pregnancy even with no discharge evident at the expected time?

I never noticed any sign of a discharge once the season was over (nor wanted to see one!), until maybe during the week or so before whelping when there can be a 'stringy', non-offensive show. We only had one miss (we have had small litters) to a male we subsequently heard was missing to all the bitches he mated with - he was imported into Canada from America - me thinks the woman who imported him, 'was done'.
Thanks for the reply. This is the girl who had the GI upset a few days after breeding so we questioned from the start if she would take. For the past few days she has been off her food in the mornings (though my girls can do that in a false) and not much change otherwise. Not overly optimistic at this point but will know soon enough.

I breed Bulldogs and always get a bit of clear or even yellowy discharge about a week after mating, I see it as a sure sign of being in whelp!
Thanks for your reply! Yes, would definitely have expected to see some discharge by now - Day 30 and still nothing. She is a maiden, medium short-coated breed, lean and fit. Teats have enlarged but still quite pliable. Off her food in the mornings for most of the past week but eats eventually. Have pretty much resigned myself to a miss, but would still be happy to hear from anyone else who cares to weigh in, particularly regarding lack of discharge. Scan in a few days but playing the waiting game between now and then.
Sorry, one more note, her vulva remains slightly enlarged and ‘poochy’ which is really what has me still thinking maybe...
Gosh, a lack of discharge really doesn't mean your dog isn't pregnant!! You may or may not get discharge. If you do, it's an excellent sign. If you don't, it doesn't mean anything at all.
Thank you for that! Interesting... we have bred 15 litters during the past 25 years and as well have had 3 or 4 misses. A common denominator in the misses has been no clear discharge seen between 21 and 30ish days, so I pretty much figured it was essential to pregnancy. Our current girl, however, has never done anything ‘by the book’ which is why I am still holding out hope that she might have taken. Always learning!

Update... finally saw a bit of mucus discharge day 31-32. Ultrasound this morning confimed pregnancy with 3 pups seen!
> her vulva remains slightly enlarged and ‘poochy’
More than anything really, THIS is how I am pretty sure there's a pregnancy going on.
