Hi Just back from vets with my dog who has had entropion since a pup but at the time of seeing eye specialist at 6 months it wasn't causing any damage. 3 years on & I have had them rechecked as they are always wet and discharge. Left it this long due to his other more pressing health issues that needed sorting more urgently.
Vet says both eyes have a little surface damage which maybe causing a slight haze but the entropion is quite bad. Worse case scenario in many years could be blindness but over next few years his sight could become more hazy and further damage would occur.
She has quoted £650 to have both eyes corrected, does this seem about right? it seemed way more than I was expecting. It is a normal vet practise but the vet we saw specialises in ophthalmology.
I have no idea of.the cost of this operation but given a general will be needed I would have thought it was not unreasonable .why not ring a couple of other vets for comparison ? Entropian is very uncomfortable for the dog so hopefully it can be done soon and your dog makes a speedy recovery
The moment the dog needs a g/a you can automatically think over £500 I'd suggest and the bigger the dog, the more the anaesthetic does cost. If done right, it's worth doing however.
I called in to pay a bill with my super Canadian vet (out there) and he was doing this op. on a young Golden Ret. He invited me to watch and I was more than willing to see how this was done. Very interesting.
thank you Yes am going to have done as he's now 3 1/2 and head is fully grown plus as there is now some irritation and damage it needs sorting. He's a 27kg clumber.
All done last Friday and he's doing well! Eyes are looking nice and hopefully now less discharge. the buster collar he's not enjoying, neither are we but we can now remove if he's sitting with us to make sure no scratching. I've gone for softer option in the evening which is a child's rubber ring and a fabric buster collar which is much nicer.
