Hello everybody I wish to breed from my pedigree dog but i don't know if you have to have a special insurance for stud dogs? Would be grateful if somebody could answer this question for me.

The short answer is no.  But stud dog owners need to be extremely experienced in examining the bitch, and knowing if she is "ready."  A lot of bitch owners will expect you to assist their girls.  And you will need to be prepared to help your dog as not all dogs get it right first time.

Assuming that your dog is a much loved pet you need to know if you are prepared to put up with him cocking his leg indoors.  Once he has mated a bitch he may well start marking indoors.

Nope you don't however on top of what Jeansw has said you also need to consider all the relevant health tests for your breed and knowing what's a good results and also making sure the bitch has them done too plus both have good temperaments.

Also to note that bitch owners normally when reputable and ethical look at stud owners who work or show their dogs so they can be evaluated.
If your boy sires a litter any puppies produced you and the owner of the bitch are then responsible of them for life so if an owner can't keep then it falls back to the owner of the bitch and you to prevent the dog from going into rescue.

If your breed is a cross breed then health tests need to be completed for both breeds

Most ordinary health insurance policies do not cover animals used for breeding purposes for breeding related issues, such as infections passed from dog to bitch & bitch to dog.

You would need to contact the insurance companies to find one that might cover breeding dogs & bitches.

I don't know what else you would need to insure for a dog being used at stud. I don't think you would get cover for things like your dog becoming sterile, failing to get a bitch in whelp, changes in temperament etc

Also to note many insurance companies it they find out your bitch or dog has been used in breeding will actually void your policy too
