We had about 1½ - 2 " yesterday but it had pretty well thawed by tea time. Got up this morning to -5 temp, about 2" snow but its still -2 and snowing, now got about 3-4" at least! I'm in Suffolk near Bury St Edmunds.

My Sisters in Lavenham and she too has lots of snow.... but down here in Somerset on the Dorset borders we have just a sprinkling...

Not to tempt fate  but we still have no snow here on the N.Cornwall coast.   Another brilliant sunny day.  It was -4 first thing and indoors only 17 which is a touch brrrr.  But once the heating was on, it quickly warmed up.   We do have wind today which isn't helping it feel any warmer.   The clouds are building so I have a feeling we may get hit tonight/tomorrow.  Hey ho - it's nearly March.   I'd be more concerned if it was still December with months of 'winter' ahead.

I went out first thing to pick up some groceries and the repeat meds and our Basset had his usual exercise.  Not so our Whippet as her corn needs hulling, again and she's lame.   I'll be getting that sorted out asap.

Just a tiny bit here although there is some light snow coming down at the moment. Snow is due in the west tomorrow and Friday followed up by frozen rain. Deep joy.

Here in Lincolnshire we have LOADS,  our village is almost cut off.  No buses no post no deliveries of any kind.  And its still snowing with gale force winds.Good job we have lots in the freezer!
- By RozzieRetriever Date 28.02.18 15:05 UTC
We've got lots here in Derbyshire, and more falling now. Dogs came in clean but took ages to remove the ice balls from their feet when we got back. I really feel for anyone stuck in it, or working.
- By Goldenfrenzy [gb] Date 28.02.18 15:23 UTC
Ah yes the iceballs on their feet!   My boy does love the snow though, he actually had the zoomies today for the first time since he was a pup!

3-4" here and random blizzards!  Took me 4 hours this morning to manage nearly 2 hours of dog walks.

I'm hoping our posties haven't given up - ironically, I am waiting for my new waterproof walking boots to arrive!

I always worry about being snowed in and if one of our dogs needs the vets in an emergency..

Me too which is why whever we moved out in Canada, my first question was how far away is the VET!!   Followed by what was the outside space.  The agents didn't understand!   Mind you it had to be a dire snowstorm for things to grind to a complete halt.  We did wreck our almost new car on early January en route from Toronto to Philadelphia to breed one of our bitches - slammed into a snowplough at 3 am which was making a right turn back to the depot after 'polishing' the freeway.   Nasty but interesting.

I would take a tractor I think if desperate.

Outside temperature in my bit of the Cotswolds is -7c. Brrrrrrrr

-5 here this morning, mainly sunny with a few snow flurries but little has settled. Ground frozen, amber warning for snow tomorrow but the strong easterly wind 47/48 is bitterly cold it feels as if it's burning your skin, oath it when it goes round to the east at this time of years as it seems to continue for days & days. Keep warm everyone.

Knee deep where I am in Scotland. Another snow day for us.
- By samsmum [gb] Date 01.03.18 10:35 UTC
North of Aberdeen on the coast and plenty of snow although it has stopped for now. Not as bad yet as some previous years
- By samsmum [gb] Date 01.03.18 10:41 UTC
Why did I put the above reply that it had stopped? Now snowing heavily again, I spoke too soon

We've had our first snow and ice for 5 years in Channel Islands. We've barely got a covering its the freezing temperatures. It causes chaos, airport closes, limited post delivery, schools closed, no road gritting lorries just men with spades gritting major junctions and busy footpaths. Then of course people are just not used to driving on icy roads, its safer to stay holed up.

On the dog front this is the first time my boy has seen snow. Hes not been bothered about treading in it we haven't been out when its been snowing. Its snowing now though and for the first time in his life he didn't come out on the patio with me when I went to fill bird feeders up  Guess it looks scary when its coming down.

It's lovely here (north east). Snowed in. Walked 2 hours at 6.30 this morning to get to the shop in the next village for some bread and other bits. It was beautiful. Just been back out to take some hay and water down to the sheep and the wind nearly had me over a few times. The chickens are struggling and I had to carry 2 of them to bed last night as they were exhausted trying to get through it. The dogs are loving it but I've brought them in and I now have 7 sprawled in front of the fire.
Fed the birdies 4 times yesterday and twice already today. Poor little things. Just saw a blackbird flying backwards in the wind!

I guess this has worried me more than being snowed in.  (Unlikely here.)  But it is so damned cold I'm guessing we'll lose a lot of birds.  I feel so sorry for them.  I know they need to drink as well, but any water I put out freezes up very quickly.  I saw a blackbird here too, he was clinging like mad to a shrub, the wind was trying to blow him away.

I'm amazed how resilient birds can be. A teeny weeny goldcrest daily comes to the feeders to peck at the crumbs the birds have left behind. I amazed every time I see it and it's survived the cold nights.

I've just tried to persuade my very robust golden to go and have a pee outside and she flatly refused particularly when she went round the corner and got walloped by a face full of wind driven snow. It's a rare day that she doesn't want to go out, normally it doesn't matter what the weather is doing

Well as of mid-afternoon yesterday here, we got SNOW finally (N.Cornwall coast) which started just sifting down and then came down in ernest.   We have about 4 inches this morning, but with the wind, some bare patches too.    One of our front windows was completely iced up first thing which is what we now have.   Sheet ice because it must have rained overnight.    My hound sank through the ice crust, yelped and ran indoors.   He's yet to have his usual morning BM today.   Hum.   My light Whippet did her biz and scuttled back indoors, fast.

We didn't get the feeders in last night so this morning they are all glazed with ice.   I'm currently thawing them out but have scattered seed on the ground + bread and freed the peanuts.   I now have to get out and bring in the fatballs to thaw and replace with the now thawed seed and peanut feeders.    Poor things but the small birds that flocked in yesterday (hubby says they are goldfinches, but they don't look big enough) are back again this morning, so they survived the night somehow.

Ghastly - stay safe and warm!!

ps   This is only the second time in almost 10 years down here, that we've had snow and last time it was really only a 5-minute dusting before it was all gone.

Goldfinches are quite small mamabas and have yellow wing bars and red faces.

We've had light snow most of the night, stopped at the moment, but it's the wind causing g drifts that is the main problem here. The wind has blown the snow off the fields and onto the top road through the village causing 3-4 foot drifts. The village snow plough is to be deployed at 11am according to the village website, so it could mean that people can get out to the main road which is passable apparently although nobodies actually made it there to have a look. There are cars stuck everywhere including 4x4's and are having to be dug out so the snowplough can get through.
Frozen rain next apparently:eek:

Good luck with that - I can cope with snow, just, but ice - nah.   When we had an open winter (little to no snow) in Canada it felt much colder because we couldn't pile up the snow against the houses, to block out any drafts which there were, even with their insulation.   I remember one Christmas Eve when one of our girls had a C.Section and I had to carry her from car to house - she'd walked out of the vets office, but zonked in the car on the way home.  This was a Basset, so no lightweight  .  Just as I was doing that, our Sales Agent arrived (this was our first Christmas after we moved in on Dec.6) with a bottle.  I'm afraid he got short shrift!!   I was intent on getting her in under the brood lamp and then the puppies out of the car.

I think btw. they must be goldfinches.  They are in in numbers, for the first time this year.

OMG I couldn't do with ice!!  I've had the central heating set at 23C for many months.  We too got snow last night, only about two inches.

I have just had an entertaining time watching from the kitchen window.  If you've never seen a dozen LC Chi's playing zoomies in the snow, you really need to.  It really made me laugh.
